Is meditating in complete darkness a bad thing? Absolutely not, well unless you’re afraid of the dark 😉
Meditating in complete darkness is actually a good thing, it helps stimulate the pineal and pitutary glands, it can reduce headaches, ease tension and awaken your other senses. Actually it’s been known for thousands of years Monks would often meditate in total darkness to acquire clarity and wisdom. Also there is the infamous sensory deprivation tanks that seem to be continuously mentioned where they help relax the mind and allow for deep inner mind exploration as all of your senses are turned off by floating in darkened water.
If anything meditating in complete darkness may bring up some unconscious fears or insecurities but that is the beauty of meditation the more you focus on the deep breathes of pranayama, the fear will be faced, accepted and released from you. There are no such thing as evil spirits or demons, these are merely illusion of the mind manifested from your fears of your subconscious/unconscious mind. The mind is powerful, we are always in control and sometimes we can let our fears overcome us which makes us *believe* we are being attacked by evil spirits or someone is taking possession of us when in actuality it’s merely your ego mind playing tricks with you. It’s literally the same thing that happens when you’re on psychedelics, you’re basically confronting the ego. This is why meditation is so powerful, it isn’t just ‘looking within’ it’s like taking a virtual tour of your psyche and finding where the weak spots are that you need to heal.
If you choose to meditate in darkness at least have a flashlight or some type of small light you can turn on/off so you don’t trip or fall lol. Besides that it’s completely safe.
hope this helps!
