One thing I’ve noticed about myself is that I lack a little creativity. Like when I’m making a song on my computer and playing the instruments. I just can’t seem to make a nice catchy melody. I’ve also notice that when I wake up in the morning I’m half awake and half asleep. It’s a dream like feeling, and when I was in that state, I came up with this BEAUTIFUL song in my head but lost it. It was so beautiful and moving. Why am I so creative when waking up?
~~~
This is because when we go to sleep our brain waves change they move from a wake consciousness to a more relaxed state of mind. Our brain waves change in frequency as we ease into sleep. this is why most spiritualists are so keen on meditation because it literally changes the brain waves into a different state.
When you are awake during the day your brain is operating on Beta Waves. This is your normal consciousness throughout the day. When we start to get tired our mind moves into an Alpha state then slowly progresses into Theta and eventually Delta(unconsciousness). During Meditation your mind can move into an Alpha-theta consciousness, which is where you are more relaxed and in tune with your body. The alpha state also connects to our subconscious mind and long term memory. It links into our right hemisphere(feminine energy) It’s a very present awareness that is calm and centered. This is the same type of awareness you can achieve by doing yoga consciously or staying in a present state of mind.
The state you enter when you waking up in that dreamy, floaty state is the Alpha state of consciousness. It’s actually very important for creativity.
Alpha Brain Waves
Hans Berger discovered Alpha brain waves in 1929 using an eeg machine. They were the first brain waves ever detected, hence named after the first letter in the Greek alphabet – Alpha.
Alpha brain waves have electrical frequencies between 8-13 hertz. They are generated in the Thalamus (the brain within the brain). Alpha brain waves are most present in a wakeful state that is characterized by a relaxed and effortless alertness. Alpha states have been described variously as sublime, flying, floating, lightness, peace, and tranquility. Alpha brain waves are not always present, if someone is in deep sleep or in intense anger there are almost no Alpha brain waves.
Alpha brain waves are important for creativity. Scientists have shown that highly creative people have different brain waves from normal and non-creative people. In order to have a creative inspiration your brain needs to be able to generate a big burst of Alpha brain waves. The brains of creative people can generate these big Alpha brain wave bursts, and do so when they are faced with problems to solve. Normal and non-creative people do not produce Alpha brain wave increases when they are faced with problems, and so they cannot come up with creative ideas and solutions. Any time you have an insight or an inspiration, you know your brain just produced more Alpha waves than usual. Increased creativity is helpful for everyone. One way to increase creativity is to increase Alpha brain waves.”
